Review history
Live Pilot
Launched April 2026; OCBC's October 2026 release lists GOLDX among its tokenisation work but gives no token supply, holders or subscriptions. No contract address is published, so nothing could be checked on-chain. Legal is unclear because OCBC describes the token as exposure to the fund, not as its units.
What was announced
On 20 April 2026 OCBC, its asset management arm Lion Global Investors and the digital asset exchange DigiFT launched the OCBC-LionGlobal Physical Gold Fund Token, called GOLDX. OCBC called it Southeast Asia’s first tokenised physical gold fund on a public blockchain. The token is issued on both Ethereum and Solana and tracks the LionGlobal Singapore Physical Gold Fund, which had S$669.4 million in assets on 16 April 2026. Institutional investors and corporate accredited investors can subscribe through DigiFT in stablecoins or fiat. OCBC made no dated commitments.
How it works
OCBC structured the issuance, DigiFT handles tokenisation and distribution, and Lion Global Investors runs the underlying fund, which holds gold bars vaulted at Le Freeport in Singapore and tracks the LBMA Gold Price AM. Tokens are delivered to investors’ own wallets and redeemed for stablecoins or fiat.
The release names no token standard, contract address or transfer restrictions. Sales are limited to eligible investors on a regulated platform, so the rubric takes public-permissioned for the ledger and whitelisted for access. Payment in stablecoins is allowed, but the release names no regulated stablecoin, so settlement is offchain. OCBC describes the token as on-chain exposure to the fund’s performance, not as fund units, so legal is unclear.
Record so far
OCBC’s 7 October 2026 release on tokenised deposits lists the GOLDX launch among its tokenisation work. Neither OCBC nor DigiFT has published supply, holders or subscription volumes. With no evidence of more than the launch issuance, scale is single and the stage is pilot. The launch is under twelve months old, so the status is live.
For Ethereum
GOLDX is one of the few bank-originated products in Singapore issued natively on Ethereum mainnet, alongside DBS’s tokenised structured notes. Issuing the same token on Ethereum and Solana means either two contracts with a shared off-chain register or a bridge; OCBC has not said which. A published contract address would show supply, holders and whether transfers are whitelisted in the contract or only at the platform.
What to watch
A contract address on either chain, published subscription figures, or access for individual accredited investors. Evidence of regular subscriptions would move scale to repeat.
