  1. Live Pilot

Launch with one client, Ant International, for intra-group SGD and USD liquidity between Singapore and Malaysia. OCBC does not confirm a completed transaction or give amounts. Ledger and legal form are unpublished; an OCBC or Ant description of WhaleRTP's ledger and a statement that the token is the deposit liability would settle both.

What was announced

On 7 October 2026 OCBC said it had become the first bank to work with Ant International on a tokenised deposit solution. Ant International will be able to use Singapore dollar and US dollar tokenised deposits at any hour to move liquidity between its entities in Singapore and Malaysia, with near real-time settlement. The service runs on Ant’s WhaleRTP, which OCBC describes as a blockchain-based wholesale settlement platform. OCBC said this is “for a start” and made no dated commitments.

How it works

A tokenised deposit is a commercial bank deposit represented as a token on a distributed ledger, so settlement is tokenised-deposit. OCBC issues the deposits and Ant’s platform moves them between Ant entities. The release names no ledger technology for WhaleRTP and does not say who operates its nodes, so ledger is unknown. Ant International is the only client, so access is closed. OCBC does not say whether the token is the deposit liability itself or a record of a deposit held in OCBC’s core banking system, so legal is unclear.

Record so far

The release describes a launch, not a volume. It says Ant “will be able to” use the deposits and gives no transaction count or amount. Scale is single and the stage pilot: a real client with real money, limited to one corporate group and one corridor.

The same release sets the launch beside OCBC’s other tokenised deposit work in September 2026, when OCBC completed Singapore dollar interbank transactions with DBS and UOB on Swift’s ledger and a cross-border US dollar transaction with Citibank there. Those run on a different network and are recorded under DBS Token Services.

What to watch

A first published transaction or volume, a second corporate client, or another corridor. A description of WhaleRTP’s ledger would settle the ledger value and show whether other banks can issue on it.
