What was announced

On 30 September 2026 Shinhan Bank said it had completed a technical test of corporate cross-border remittances using a stablecoin. The design keeps the client’s process unchanged: companies use their existing corporate banking and foreign currency accounts and never hold a digital asset wallet or the stablecoin, while the bank moves and settles the funds with the stablecoin. Shinhan said the Solana Foundation took part as technology partner.

How it works

Shinhan modelled the test on the remittance requirements of a large Korean company and ran the whole process in a test environment: payee registration and internal approval, foreign currency account checks, execution by the bank, settlement and payment to the recipient, and refunds. It also tested a structure that validates each transaction while keeping counterparties, amounts and payment details private. The release names neither the chain nor the stablecoin, so ledger is unknown. The release does not say under what legal basis the stablecoin was issued; the test ran in a test environment without clients, so legal is sandbox, access is closed and scale is simulated.

Record so far

The test is complete. Shinhan said it would consider offering the service as rules and the market develop.

What to watch

A named chain and stablecoin, and a first remittance for a client, which would move stage to pilot. The legal basis for a stablecoin Shinhan would use in a live service.
